I'm heading up to Flathead and the Kootenia river for a week. I fished Flathead just out of Bigfork and got 2 decent 7# lakers but it took longer than expected. We had a map and i noticed some islands up by the mouth of the little flathead river(I think that's the name) but it was quite a run from where we launched. But we read many fish where we were.

Anyone got any tips on where to fish and what to use? Do they mostly feed on kokanee? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

i don't don't know much about macks, but i do know if you fish the lower part of the lake you have to by an indian res. licence. the other thing i know is look out for any hint of wind, that part of montana is famous for it's major gusts that can last for days and on flathead it can start in a blink. and there is no messing with as much open surface as that for gusts to get going on. be careful, good luck.
