I picked this knife up in 1984 and it's still in production today. The old worn out sheath was replaced a few years ago.

Not sure. Maybe to "choke-up" on the knife during heavy work...????

The back edge of the blade above the cut-out is grooved to place your thumb on it. The blades about 9/32" thick along the back edge.

If you altered that finger groove in the blade just ever so slightly you could pop open beers with it. \:D
