Damn....
http://www.foxnews.com/us/2016/05/10/texas-town-oks-63m-for-high-school-football-stadium.html

A bit different then the steamroller sand field I played on in high school at Lincoln Bowl.

Stadium bowl was my homefield... as old as it is, I wonder how much that would cost to build in todays dollars

John Kitna is down there reaping the benefits of coaching high school football in Texas. Couldn't live there for any amount of money.

Played there as well Piper.
Lincoln Bowl was brutal though.
The sand would wear your skin off and get under your pads. Tons of staph infections from that crap.
People still don't believe me that they used to hose the field down before the games so the sand was wet then roll it with a steamroller.

To bad they no longer have the pre-season grid go round for all the Tacona schools.

The Lincoln Bowl had turf and rubber pellets by the time I played there. Cool stadium.

...and people in my town can't get behind a new stadium because all the old farts want it built in a floodplain...for twice the amount of money in a better location.

Different places, different priorities I guess. I mean come on its just $1million+, chump change in comparison 63million+.

If you live in Elma, you know how some people just can't let go of the past. Even when the field conditions get so bad that people tear ACLs because the field is soup.

Stadium Tigers, but the only scoring I did was on Ruston Way after the games wink

As I remember, we had a hell of a loosing streak in the 80's, something like 0-fer four or more years in a row...

I got to sit on the bench with Momma Tahoma and watch the rest of the team kick your butts. Hey, I might have even got on the field against Stadium.... Last great year of a dynasty - we lost in a badly played playoff game that year (1986). Team went of the cliff since then.

So what was it like to play in leather helmets?

I've seen some of you in person and thank goodness I played in the era of face mask technology. Watch out for that sneaky forward pass guys....
