GPS Leads Lacey Police To Hoard Of Stolen Goods

LACEY, Wash. -- Lacey police said a GPS tracking unit led them to a room full of stolen goods, reported KIRO 7 Eyewitness News.

A tracking system in a stolen laptop activated, and led police to a Tumwater motel where a mountain of high-end stolen property was found.

Among the many items recovered were $800 Juicy Couture purses, expensive jewelry and electronics such as iPods, GPS units, gaming systems, cameras and laptops. Police said the merchandise was stolen from cars in an area ranging from Lacey and north up the Interstate 5 corridor, as far as the south King County-Auburn area.

Detectives said the incident was the first time they were able to use such a unit to find stolen property.

Since the items were recovered, police said returning the items to their owners will be a difficult task.

Anyone who had property stolen in a car prowl from this summer through Dec. 21 is asked to contact the Lacey Police Department during normal business hours at (360) 459-4333 and ask for the evidence officer.
