That is just self preservation on Maher's part. He's smart enough to know that if Rush goes down, old Bill is two steps behind him because he way more insulting to large segments of the population then Rush has been over the years.

The First Amendment stops the Government from censoring your speech...it in no way stops private companies from doing so, and while you may be able to say whatever you want, that doesn't mean that there aren't consequences for saying whatever you want.

He has absolute freedom of speech...but like I said, saying whatever you want doesn't mean there aren't consequences to what you say.
