Okay went fishing on Father's Day and returned last Sunday. Didn't see any fish on Father's Day but saw lots of fish on Monday but none would bite. Changed down to 10 lb from 14 lb P-line. (VHawk sold me on the P-line) Hooked one Tuesday morning and had it on until the line snapped during a headshake but probably fraid from drifting over the boulders. Couple hours later I hooked another and spits the hook. Half hour later good hookset and landed the steelhead after a good fight. All on pieces of cooked prawn/yarn.

Next morning Wednesday I started further up river and hooked/landed a nice buck. Cleaned it and found my hook and prawn in its gut. Same fish.

Wednesday 1 steelhead, Thursday 2 and Friday 1 (31 in) plus a Chinook jack 23 inches. All on sand shrimp or prawn. No fish Saturday or Sunday but my buddies each got one Sunday before I left.

So did I go 6 for 8 or 6 for 7 ?

Never fished Johnson creek. Is Johnson creek in the woods of Wisconsin or Washington?

Some friends were work-fishing for steelhead. Flies and then collect scales, a genetic sample, etc. Caught a fish, worked it up, released it, and on the next cast hooked the same fish. From this and other stories I have come to the conclusion that steelhead aren't too smart. They must be, rather, hard to put the bait/lure in front of them.

Thanks for recovering your lost gear, too..

Of course Steelhats aren't too bright. I catch them occasionally so....here's yer' sign.

I say you went 6.5 for 8 with a minor delay.

Steelhead behavior is strange. Had one suck my sandshrimp in its mouth, I waited for a tug, then it spit out the sandshrimp.

I might cast and cast for an hour then one steelhead will peel off of formation and look at my bait. Had one chase my bait as I was retrieving towards shore and I should have stopped reeling. Couldn't get it to bite.

One evening saw 1, 2, 3, 4, and then about a dozen steelhead move up into and out of the hole. Probably another dozen until they were all gone before it started getting dark.

Strange I never caught any in the afternoon or evening so far this summer.

I hooked the nice buck and the other 3 steelhead kinda ran around the hole and took off upstream.

Sometimes the fish will just run around in circles. Strange stuff.
