There has been a couple caught already, but it'll be a month and a half before I make the trek down there.

Actually, some of the guys in P Town are expecting them fairly soon. And I believe some have been reported caught in OR city already. The early guys are usually very mum though. I'm thinking that by Feb the game is on and heavens to mergatroy that's only a few days away. My how time flies.

Does any salmon taste better than a spring chinook?

From what Ive seen and hear, they are starting to come in.
do a search on here about the springer runs. They are supposedly coming in earlier and bigger because a vast majority of them are 5 salt fish.
The article mentioned a couple weeks ago on here had more info.
I'm itchin to fire up the Predator and throw out some quikies and herring!!!!!!

It's never too earley to ask about springers.

Mooch,

There isn't a better tasting salmon as far as I'm concerned. I've had Coper River Sockeye and King. Our springers taste better.

Here's how the wife cooks it. Cut into strips 2" wide. Filet from skin. Brush on olive oil, season with lemon peper and Johnny's then cook in the George Forman for 6 min. Um, Um Aunt Bee, that's some mighty fine fish.

Maguana,

Now you've done it. I'm going to have to strap on the drool cup for the rest of the night.

Always wondered if those Copper River kings were considered a "springer". Maybe someone out there knows for sure.

Fact is I could listen to you guys talk springers till the cows came home. My fingers are twitching, my arm is aching and my mouth is watering already. Keep it coming, after my first one (it might've come out of that canyon in the avatar come to think of it wink ) it's never been too soon for springers.

The Copper River salmon are the same fish as our Columbia Springers. The reason they are so dang good is they enter the river so early in the spring and do not spawn till August and September, they must live off those fat reserves for several months, we love those fat reserves.

There have been a few caught down here on the Willamette. One I know of out at Sellwood and a few up at Meldrum. Rumor was a couple more yesterday or the day before at melddrum, nothing to get to excited about but they are coming. They always get a few of them this time of year in the years with good runs. ODF&w is predicting a large run of 5 year olds and those are the bigger early fish. Buddy of mine got one in the columbia last Nov that the bio said was an early springer from the Scale sample. We just figured it got lost smile and ended up at Bonneville the wrong time of year.
