Any recommendations on a good 10'1/2 rod for a reasonable price? Went to Sportsmans and have checked out Cabelas and the GLX Loomis is very pricey. I'm looking for a rod that will take 10-14 lbs. test that has a medium/light feel....does anyone make such a rod? Thanks.

Check out the Rainshadow Blanks, looks like the 1263 or 1264 is just for you. Make it yourself or have somone put one together for you. Either way you get the guides, handle, and color combo you want with an awsome blank for under $200. Hard to beat.

Take a look at the AllStar rods. I was going to buy one this week, a 10 1/2 @$107, but a 5lb fish landed me a new GL2 8'6. I was very pleased with the feel and the life time warrenty. I posted last week on this rod. Bring the post up and see the responses that others have them. You can see the rod down at Sportco.

Fish on,

I second the Rainshadow 1263 or 1264 mentioned earlier. I prefer the 1263. beer

I have a 10'6" and a 8'6" Shimano Convergence graphite rods that I really like. There also very affordable. Will run you $65.00 for the 8'6" and about $85.00 for the 10'6". Got both of mine down at outdoor emporium. beer

Mac,

If you want to save money get the shimano. They're fairly light weight and well built but are kind of soft compared to the high modulus rods like Rainshadow makes.

All Stars are good quality rods and kind of cheap too.

Lamiglas are over priced but good quality.

In my opinion the higher modulus G Loomis are over priced and have suffered in quality due to mass production and the lifetime warranty has now been replaced with a $50.00 per shot replacement fee.

The best rods today are custom made from locally produced rainshadow blanks which are reasonably priced. The 1263 blank is probably best for summer run steelhead and silvers but for winter steelhead, chum and kings the 1264 has more backbone.

As Jerry mentioned Travis at TH Custom Rods manufactures from Rainshadow blanks. Another reasonably priced source of quality custom rods and blanks from Rainshadow is Bruce at Northwest Custom Rods .

I'll be picking up a custom designed 1264 with my name painted right on the blank under the epoxy finish (better than a serial number) on Wednesday. Can hardly wait to try it.
