JUDGE NOT IMPRESSED: A federal judge has told the Bush regime that it ?will
have its hands full convincing him that management of the dams on the
Columbia and lower Snake rivers doesn?t seriously threaten endangered salmon
and steelhead runs? says SFGate.com, AP 4/21. Conservation and fishermen?s
groups are challenging a NOAA Fisheries biological opinion which maintains
that habitat improvement, hatcheries, and harvest limitations alone -
without breaching four dams on the lower Snake River - can keep ESA listed
stocks from being jeopardized. The regime maintains, ?the government is not
required to ensure that the fish stocks won?t go extinct, only to ?not
diminish the likelihood of recovery? from a threatened species listing.?
