Hi.

I've had great luck fishing near Sedro Wooley (that 1st big hole below Gilligan Creek, on the south side of the river, is one spot) but I'm unsure as to how great the fishing is ABOVE Rockport (that area all the way upstream to Bacon Creek)?

Do most of the pink salmon that get near the Rockport area head up the SAUK, instead of going up to the Marblemount areas of the Skagit? I thought I heard that once.

I believe Skagit above Marblemount bridge is closed to all salmon fishing. They spawn above Rockport, not very bright though smile Quite a few do enter the Sauk- Sauk is closed to all salmon fishing as well.

Nailknot: You're right (I just checked), it does not open for salmon above the Marblemount Bridge (where the Cascade River hits the Skagit.) Thanks.

Anybody else do well (or not so well) from Rockport bridge to Marblemount bridge?

You can catch lots of pinks all through that section, try big eddie, camper bar, and barnaby slough. I probably would not take any home though.

Dale,

As mentioned, salmon fishing is prohibited upstream of Marblemount. However, just because something is allowed doesn't mean it's a good idea.

Humpies that are bright, good eating (for humpies), and abundant beyond belief in the lower 48 state can be had in the lower Skagit River. I cannot fathom why anyone would want to fish for them when their condition is deteriorating. You can catch a bright humpy at Hamilton or even Rockport, but they are not even close to the quality you'll catch downstream of SW.

Yes, you can catch humpies anywhere in the Skagit, but for a quality experience, and a quality fish, I recommend fishing the lower river.

Sincerely,

Salmo g.
