Did anybody else from Olympia see the classified add in sunday's paper for Arctic Char Fillets, $3/lb ? Puzzling, are Artic Char farmed in Alaska or Canada?

Must be incidental to some commercial fishery in Alaska. Can't imagine why anyone would farm them...if they're anything like Dolly Varden, their commercial value can't be too high.

Anyone else have any ideas?

Another speculation...

Has anyone actually seen them yet? This is total speculation on my part, but is it possible that they are dollies caught incidentally in tribal nets on the coast, and being sold as "char" rather than the more specific name "dolly varden"?

Not kidding at all, there is an artic char farm in Oakville that is going out of business. They must be trying to get rid of their excess supply.

Who woulda thunk it?

I've eaten "wild Arctic Char" before and the were pretty tasty. Not comparable to wild sockeye but still worth cooking.

I'd think that the farmed variety is about as yummy as the farmed steelhead, kings or atlantics.
