Anyone planning on driving to the OP and taking the Humptulips/Amanda Park route....

The roads are HORRIBLE!! I witnessed four wrecks, was first on the scene at one and second on the scene at the other...both cars passed me because 'I was going too slow'.

Side note to the idiot in the northbound white chevy Blazer...

...I hope you didn't kill anyone.

Please folks, remember that when you are on the road, its not just your own life you are taking into your hands, its every single person on the highway.

The wreck I passed on 104 Christmas day killed three people, luckily there were no serious injuries in the wrecks today, at least the ones I saw.

For goodness sakes....sometimes you really have to wonder where peoples survival instincts have gone.

Yeah the roads do suck, I drove from Forks to Newport, (Idaho Border).

That was the worst driver ever, Blizzard conditions nearly the entire way.

It was clear between Port Angeles and North Bend but sollid ice and snow the rest of the way.

Thanks for the heads up stlhdh2o. Was going to post about this yesterday, but when I got back, thought I'd take a nap first while I was waiting for the kids to get off the computer and turned into more than that. The stretch of road that was really bad was from McCleary to Aberdeen. 25 was max and any faster you'd be off road driving. Didn't help any when the front came in and made some thunder/lighting/hail combo and with me holding onto a fishing pole out in the middle of the river.

This is deadly serious dude.

I appreciate the levity, but I'm hoping people take me seriously. A friend that was behind me just called me informing me that seconds after I left, a white blazer tapped its brakes when it saw the wreck I had been standing at, nearly plowed into the survivors/rescuers, and lost it on the other side of the road.

According to my friend the driver suffered serious injuries.

Black ice should be a factor tonight too....I swear its a better idea to just flat out stay off the roads tonight unless its life or death, mostly because no matter how cautiously you drive, there is no accounting for the 'white blazer' type of people, they are the ones that will kill you...

highway 101 between PA and the hood canal bridge was like it had a sheet of pond ice over the road. there was a 5 car pile up at gardener too, blocking the road off, so be careful on that stretch of road

Piper, I hope you were just kidding about the "Forks guys". Im a "Puyallup guy" and went to the Hump this morning and the roads were nasty. The skating rink started in Olympia and didnt end until we hit the river. Passed two accidents on the way, one roll over. Didnt look like there were any serious injuries, WSP was on the scene. There were a few scarry moments though, as the back end of my truck tried its hardest to get to the river first, but I did my best not to let it.....slow and easy with a little help from the 4wd. There were two boats that passed me in that stuff though, I couldnt believe it. Not to mention the guys that ride your a**! The road conditions added an extra hour to the drive out there but it was well worth the extra hour to make it there in one piece. As far as the "white blazers", not much you can do about those kind. Just be careful out there guys, take it easy, drive safe and live to fish another day!!!!

I know your serious... sorry for kidding around with you...

I drove the hood canal loop and up the dosewallips today. Although the roads weren't bad when I went around they were wet and a little frosty in the shady spots... and this was close to the water... it will be bad after dark for sure...

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

The weather was playing some nasty tricks this AM. I drove from Lacey over to Monte this morning. The weather was downright nasty at times around Summit Lake.........but it looked to be improving once past McCleary. Pulled in to Monte Square, and was just speeding up getting back onto the freeway when you could see flares on the road. That bridge approaching the Devonshire road exit was polished ice, and a Jeep Wagonneer found out the hard way.

The road approaching the bridge was dry..........but on the bridge it was just black ice......not a cool trick for the weather to play on drivers like that.

Be mellow........take it slow........get there in one piece. thumbs
