Just a little window into how Bush can say "We will prevail", and other spin about his incompetence...

THE FRAUD -- WHITE HOUSE CAUGHT REVISING RECESSION DATE. . .the CEA's Economic Report of the President "unilaterally changed the start date of the last recession to benefit Bush's reelection bid." Instead of using the accepted start date of March 2001, the CEA announced that the recession really started in the fourth quarter of 2000.

THE FRAUD -- WHITE HOUSE CAUGHT KILLING KEY JOBS REPORT. . .In 2003, AP reported, "The Bush administration has dropped the government's monthly report on mass layoffs, which also had been eliminated when President Bush's father was in office. The report by the Labor Department's Bureau of Labor Statistics recorded layoffs of 50 or more workers regardless of duration." Fortunately, Congress refused to go along, and the mass layoff report still exists today.

THE FRAUD -- WHITE HOUSE CAUGHT HIDING POVERTY DATA: Recently compiled Census data shows that under Bush, poverty has increased for three straight years and the number of uninsured Americans has hit an all-time high. But instead of being forthcoming about these statistics, the administration did all it could to bury them.

LT,

Anyone that understands macro-economics knows that economic trends don't just happen and make them selves know magically---there is a lag period of cause and effect, and we saw economic decline the latter half of 2000 before we officially saw two quarters of consecutive downturn in the begining of 2001.

Nice try though.

I like the title of your thread---"Bush will prevail"---apparently you've been looking at the polls recently. \:D

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

A four-year lag? Riiiiiight. The US economy isn't that slow to adjust, especially in the information age.

Of course, the sock in the head the US economy took after 9/11, and the increased federal spending to fight the war in Iraq and Afghanistan have to be taken into account as well.

My beef with the Bush administration has been the tax cuts during a time of increased federal spending, which has led to huge deficits, and a larger national debt. Whether the tax cuts ultimately helped an economy that was staggered by 9/11, or hurt the economy by increasing the payments on the national debt is a matter that will be debated by Economists with Ph. D's for years to come. I know that many Nobel-Laureate Economists have spoken out against the Bush Administration policies..........but I suppose if they knew everything about the economy they'd be sitting back on their own island in the South Pacific sipping a cool drink.

But, hey, why talk about the economy when we can talk about ribbons from Viet Nam and the TANG and stuff? \:D

You missed the entire point Bush released the data and manipulated the dates for political reason.

He did not manipulate data he released data sets inside date sets that make him look better. Thats the problem with data you can use it a 1000 ways and everyone would be correct. All candidates do it. It matters little unless it directly effects you.

Ya like I said he manipulated the data.

They unilaterally changed the start date of the last recession to benefit Bush's reelection bid

And it did. New factory orders started their down ward trend in 4Q 2000. All other indicators trail productivity . So in March 2001 we new how deep and how bad it would be.
