It would be more fun to discuss why there was a Missle crisis at all. Kruschev saw weakeness in JFK at their summit meeting and pushed JFK as far as he could in every corner of the globe. The missle crisis was avoided more by NK's lack of will to escalate than JFK's resolve. If GW was president NK would have never put missles in Cuba.

The GW assumption meets with the premise of the thread "hypothetical " As to the validitiy of the cause of the crisis it is well documented. It has even been updated recently with JFK's dr's. records . Showing he had severe back pain up to and during the meetings and was on high dosages of pain killers etc. It attempts to account for JFK's lack of clarity and Kruschevs view that he was weak.
