Hi, I am pretty new to fishing but have become very interested lately. I live on the Green in Kent. I would like to try to catch some stealhead but i'm totally lost when it comes to what to use. Could someone please explain some good setups to me? I have been using a rooster tail for the past few days but haven't even got a hit. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance,

thats a very broad question, it could take a whole book to explain the basics of terminal gear and how to find the fish in the river. you should try doing a search on this board for specific techs you are looking for or you could check out www.steelheader.net for basic information. if you have specific questions you still can't find answered just ask them here, there are lots of helpful people around who can offer advice

oh yeah, and welcome aboard!!

Try emailing FFF or WINGWANG for tips on steelhead. If you are interested in salmon on the Green I can help you out.

My suggestion is to give up before the sickness spreads. You had better give all of your gear away now, before you sink into a neverending gear buying spiral sure to lose you your wife and win some friends. Then again, depends on your wife. wink

Thanks everyone for the help. I just have one more question, if i'm using a sliding float how much line do I want between the stop and start bead? Thanks,

What start bead?? I always let the float come down to a swivel. You have to adjust your stop bead sos that you are just tipping down at the tailout of the hole. Or on a uniform riffle keep going deeper until you start dragging bottom where the float tips down or sinks. Then come up about 6 inches. After you get onto it you'll do better adjusting your depth twice or sometimes more as you fish down a deep hole. May be easier learning standard drift technique to start. Floats are kinda tricky to get onto.
Good luck and I hope you stick with it. Took me over a year on my own trying different stuff to hook my first steelie and never got much good at it until I fished with some pros and picked up some important tips.

What would you guys say is the easy setup that is still affective? I really appreciate everyone's help. I would be even more lost without this site. THANKS.
