I live by a lake that's very shallow (1-5 feet). It holds a fair population of bass. I've spotted them this year, but I can't seem to get them to hit. Any suggestions on tackle or presentation are welcome. Thanks for the help.

Try some soft plastic in natural colors.
Say a 4" worm weightless, Or my go to bait a 3" tube with a 1/32 oz weight.
Next time you see them loop around and try to stay out of sight. If you can see them they can see you. (shadows to) good luck eek

I have had success sizeing down to light line (4#) and small plastics (1 inch) to get those spooky fish in the shallows- and as mentioned earlier, never let 'em see your shadow.

Or.. you could always try my favorite. A popper on a flyrod. I'd use the cheap Korean ones with rubber legs if they're still available. They used to twist up on my line when I cast them. When sitting on the water, the line would try to unwind and slowly turn the popper over and over, wiggling the rubber legs. Fish couldn't resist them

wink

I have had a lot of success fishing bass at dusk with a popper as well. If you don't flyfish, try a smaller "Hula Popper" on for size. There is nothing like fishing in the dark! A

Well, this year I have had good luck with somthing like a Banjo Minnow. I use the same setup as the banjo but have used other plastics. I have caught many bass (big & small), bluegill, crappie, and 1+ lb perch. The best color I have found is a green with black spots, in a leech shape. This leech has a flat tail and is 2-3 in long. hope this helps you. Good luck, hey and let me know the outcome, thanx.

I have most of my luck pitching a 4" pumpkin seed color worm rigged non-weedless for picky fish add a small split shot about 6 inches above the worm and SLOWLY twitch it... also a chug bug or baby-bug work well just cast a ways away from the fish and pop it or walk it back over the tops of um', it drives them nuts!! eek

Thanks for the advice, i've been using small
soft plastics, but toning down the line size and the colors i never thought of. Thanks again.
