OK, if you went over this weekend any information on how people were doing, what they used, what worked, what didn't. Your help is appreciated! I'm out there Wednesday. laugh

Call Shawn Short, the Asst. Mgr at Hooked on Toys (a greaaat sporting goods store in Wenatchee). He came into the store with a group of five more on opening day (Aug 10). They had a cooler with a limite of 4 to 6 pound sockeye salmon they had caught before noon!

Shawn's a great guy, I'm sure he'll tell you what to use out there! Tel. 509-663-0740.

Thanks John, I just got off the phone with Shawn. He said fish it the same as Lake Washington, fish 65-80 feet deep, red, black, other color hooks are all working. The fish are in good shape, not dark. Fish are throughout the lake, although the anglers are working the far end of the lake. I'm am pumped up now! laugh

Mike,

Hope I'm not too late in telling you this. Parking has been a problem since the Cougar Inn boat launch is no longer available. If you go to Glacier View Campground or the State Park with a boat and trailer, get there early!

Good luck and let us all know how you do!

My plan is to drive over Tuesday after work, put the boat in the water, fish, anchor and sleep in the boat. Fish Wednesday and go home. I talked with a state park guy and he said it wasn't too bad over the weekend, so I'm hoping the weekday will be tolerable. Can't wait for tommorrow to get here! And yes, I will be bringing my camera and doing a report. Maybe with a bit of luck this fishery will happen again in less than ten years.

Fished there yesterday (MON). We caught a limit (4 fish) but it took us a while. If I had known up front to fish 65 to 80 feet like the report said, it may not have taken 7 hours.

I fished the far end of the lake and had the most success fairly close to shore in the area south of the point. To describe that better, as you approach the end of the lake, there is a point straight at the end and two bays. I fished the bay on the left where I marked some schools.

The fish are not dark? As compared to what? Its not that they are really poor shape, but don't expect them to look like Lake Washington fish. They definately have color to them, some more than others. Also they are significantly smaller on average than Washington fish (unless I was just really lucky last year) running 3 to 5 lbs.

I used the State Park launch which is a decent launch. My only disapointment is their parking style as they have no trailer parking. You have to disconect the trailer and park next to it. But there was plenty of parking. You have to be carefull to watch for rocks as you leave the launch area. I saw someone who was not watching run his boat right up on one.

Depending on which way you get there, be prepared for road work. I took I-90 to 97 to 2. They have work on 97 and 2. Also, lightning started a small fire North/West outside Leavenworth, something to be aware of.
