I bought a slug of bottom of the line scud hooks (being a basic cheapscate) because I think chronomids look slightly more lifelike tied on the curved scud hook.
Took them fishing at one of my favorite lakes yesterday and had the first three fish hooked straighten the hook and got loose. These were not exceptional trout...1 1/2# to 3#
triploids.
Has anyone else encountered this problem??? These hooks seem to be made of poor grade steel of dry fly thickness and one quick lunge by a good trout will straighten them.
I just ordered a bunch of Tiemco to replace them, but was wondering if anyone else has the problem or if I'm just too heavy handed?
