I found some deer pellets near a nice rub and an antler with 4 points on it. I beleive the deer are bedding nearby. Do deer defecate in their bedding areas? Or, do the generally drop their feces away from where they bed down? Or do they just crap wherever? If anyone knows that deer DO NOT defecate near their beds, then I can rule out the idea that I may have found a bedding area. It is not currently being used if it is. Only some old ferns trammped down in large circles gives me the idea that at some point the deer where bedding there. The droppings I found were relatively soft and a little shiny, however, I don't know if that means they were fresh or just wet from the recent rain. Any help would be appreciated as I try to figure this scouting thing all out. Thanks

When did you find the turds? If it's in the last couple days,I'd say their pretty fresh. as cold as it's been the last couple days,I've seen them frozen even in late afternoon. I've also seen both deer, and elk turds in spots that have been heavily used as bedding areas. I've even seen bedded deer get up,pee or poop, and lie right back down in the bed. I think you're on to a decent spot. smile

I have got to agree with HBP. I have seen alot of the same. I would think you are on to a good spot. So just keep up the scouting. beer
