Start a little closer to home. The old International Paper property, now owned by Campbell group has lots of deer, but only a few big ones. Look at the 5800 series roads and 5100 series for a number of clearcuts. They did some serious thinning last year, so there will be a fair amount of food this year.

Haven't seen any cougar tracks in your area, but I do know where a few bears are.

Head up the 23 or the 25 road and start looking for sign. Both have quality deer if you find the spot. Some good bear hunting up there too. Head up there towards the end of august and look for berry patches. The bears will be there so look hard.
