What do you do with your gun when you're done hunting for the morning/day and you need to jump in your truck to return to camp? Do you fire your gun? Or do you use one of those co2 systems that push out the ball and powder ? Does it work ? Where can you buy one?
I hate the idea of firing the fully loaded gun near my hunting areas in fear of driving game further away from the roads. . .
There has got to be a better way to go about this than firing the shot off when ready to go back to camp twice a day!?

Lofty,
I have left my gun loaded for a week at a time, I've never had a hang-up or a gun not fire.
The night before I go hunting I clean the rifle really good to remove any oil that might be in it from storage. I will load the gun in the morning and take off hunting. I'm one of those guys that is very careful about not getting my rifle wet or dirty. I still use fff power (haven't made the big change over to 777 or porodex)with number 11 caps I use buffalo bullets for elk and sabits for deer.
I've hunting alot on the westside in the jungle and the rain forests we have and never had a problem so far.

While I do own a muzzleloader, I seldom hunt with it, in answer to what do you do if you go to town it is my understanding a muzzleloader with powder and projectile loaded is not considered loaded during transport in a vehicle if it is not capped or primed and another little trick to keep your powder dry while hunting in the rain is to put a finger cot over the muzzle of the weapon it will not hurt anything if the rifle is fired without removing the finger cot.

I also leave mine loaded.Never had a problem. You can buy little rubbers that are made to go over your barrel.Or I just use a peice of masking tape.Buy the German hotcaps. They are pretty water proof. You wouldnt believe the diiference between them and a regular cap. They come in a red pack with green label.I believe it says Dynamit nobel on the label
I see this reply is pretty late.Kinda out of the loop with hunting this year do to a shoulder injury. But I hope this helps you in the future.
