Has anyone ever done the high buck hunts that run 9-15 through 9-25? I would like to know success rates or even any animals seen. Has anyone seen any Mulies, Whitetails, or moose Crossbreeds. I know that there are big eek blacktails in the OP areas. Thanks, Jim

Have taken a couple of trips to the Buckhorn Wilderness archery hunting with my friends who were rifle hunting. There was not a lot of pressure on any of these trips and we did manage a 3x4, 4x4, and should have taken a huge 5x6 but my buddy was too busy trying not to soil his shorts to shoot. In talking to other hunters on these trips the success rate seemed fairly high unless they were holding out for record class bucks.

I went a few years ago with a buddy to the Pasayten Wilderness in an area West of Winthrop. We actually started East of Winthrop, but after a 7 mile hike and seeing nothing we pulled out and went back to an area he had tried in the past. Although we didn't see any animals on the right side of the wilderness boundary we did see a 2-point and 3-point on the hike in and two 4-points on the hike out. All mulies. Wished we had a few extra days to explore and perhaps run into a legal animal within the Wilderness boundary.

I hunted Glacier Peak from 1977 to 1996. On average I could have shot a deer most of the years...say 15 of all the ones I went in. After a while I decided I didn't want to shoot a 17-20 inch 2 1/2 year old deer just to say I got one.

One of the guys with me shot a Pope & Young mule deer in 1994.

One of the deer I shot was older than 2 1/2 years. Rest were 2 1/2 years and younger.
