Headed east on Friday morning to hunt ducks with my godfather over in yakima. The trip started off really well when i misread the ferry schedule and showed up for the 135am boat that had left at 1255. So i turned around and drove through Gig harbor, i think, i dont really remember that much of the trip but I must have. (i really hate this feeling) Stopped a couple times to take little naps but finally arrived around 6 to the desired destination and hiked out into the marsh. I was wide awake at this point with the sounds of mallards and pintails all around us. Plenty of birds, but they were vary spooky. light calling and a jerk cord seemed to be the ticket. we should have been done fairly quickly but i couldnt seem to shoot very well. we bailed around 11 after my godfather shot his last duck.

the rest of the weekend can be summed up with this picture.

we were due for a couple bands but to get them this way was fantastic.

Excellent work as usual.

I got skunked this weekend. Went to Patterson left at 2:00 am got there about 5:30, my favorite spot was open and no race required. Set up the blocks, wind powered motion decoy, and 12 mph winds. There were thousands of ducks on the river. The blind was full of empty shells and I though this is going to be a good shoot. Sun came up, ducks shut up, not one shot fired until 10:00 AM at a Pintail drake which I missed. Absolutley no shooting on the river blinds. The interior sloughs sounded like they were having an OK day until 10:30 or so but then it was quiet.

J7- i heard of some good hunting down river a little further at Whitcomb. There have been a ton of birds stacked down there this year. you might want to check that out

Yep thats probably where I heard most of the shooting. Oregon side too....all shots were down river or in the sloughs. I have only hunted the Whitcomb unit twice back in early 2000's. Never put much time to figure out which blinds/spots were productive so I stuck to what I knew at Patterson unit. I'll bet the birds are feeding on the fields down that way. I used to have permission to hunt one of the large farms down that way but I let that dry up and havent been back and not sure if its still OK.
