I just learned that the public hunting areas are open only to old farts for five days at the beginning of the season. Have any of you tried these hunts? Are they very popular and do they plant birds every day of the five days?

Not sure. I'm just a middle age fart.

i couldn't find if they release every day. i'm taking lindsey this saturday to crescent lake and see if we can scare up one. BTW, cherry valley is closed until oct 6th, then weekends only 'til they finish construction. let me know when you want to get out!

I've never hunted old farts.....sounds fun but not very sporting. I also never realized that they had release sites for old farts.

Releasing them would be like watching the opening of a Wal-Mart on Thanksgiving night...only wayyyy slower and much grumpier.

Actually the hunt is for old farts and young farts, and I would be surprised if they planted more than one time, probably just a Friday plant for the weekend, but I could be wrong.

Bummer for you Dave that Cherry Valley is closed....Crescent Lake is 100% standing corn at the present. Best bet around here is probably the Ebey site.

i'm dissapointed that they converted that whole field from wheat to corn. we hunted that pretty much every weekend til they cut. they typically don't cut any of the corn til halfway through the season. I'm just afraid that ebey will be packed. haven't hunted there yet....
