Here's a slideshow from Mountain Goat pictures that I took while solo backpacking in the Olympic Mountains in the 1970's.

Some impressive Billy's:

Very nice. I've seen a good number of them over the years whilst playing hide-n-seek with elk....

Back in the 1970's there used to be a archery season for Goats on the Eastern slopes of the Olympic Mountains just outside the Park Boundary.

Mostly on Mt. Henderson, Mt. Stone, and Mt.Pershing. I suppose that hunt no longer exists.

As cool as they are they don't belong on the OP. They were never there historically and they shouldn't be there now.

They are the single most destructive invasive species in the state! Of course they only eat fauna that is only found on the OP. They should have an open archery season year round on them until they are gone!

The funny thing is they were introduced for hunters yet we never get a shot at them??

Nice job.......well done....

I thought that after the person was killed by a goat.....that the goats of the Olympic National Park.....were going to be killed!!!!

Was I mistaken in this thinking?????

I remember seeing the Mt. goats while I was fishing Lake Diablo, back a few years.......1961.....I would hate to see one of natures amazing animals killed off.

I went to college in South Dakota, and got to see the goats there....in Custer State Park..

The hiker stabbing goat was indeed killed. But just that one. After they closed the trail for a year or so. Most people, of course, walked right around the closed sign so they were sort of forced to take it out.

The goats have been hunted by gov't hunter's for a few years now. the reason is because they were eating an endangered species of plant supposedly only found on the OP. Don't know how many are left.
