this was my elk that I got this year. My group got 4 this year.

anyone know when and if the WDFW is going to publish the increased special draw tags for the areas surrounding Mt. St. Helens?

And NO the elk isn't from a farm. The harness is for our chainsaw wench we use to get them out whole. Pony bridle works great!!

Nice pictures, how much meat do you generally get from a full sized cow elk like that?

I have never really weighed one. My guess would be you only get about 1/3 out the original weight of the animal. So if it weighed 500 pounds on the hoof you might get 175 lbs of meet?

stalker-

There is a large round metal rind under the lower jaw(were you would normally clip the lead rope for a horse or pony)that we clip or cable form the chainsaw wench to. The hardest thing about it is packing the wench down and up the hill . You have to make multiple pulls on the animal. This one died 6-800 yards from a road and it was out in about 1/2 an hour. Gut it on the road, leave the guts on the side, load whole elk in truck, head back to camp to celebrate, skin, and quarter animal.

Congrats.
What kind/brand of winch? Do you have a pic?

As for the F&G and extra tags, the permit numbers won't be out until about May. As I understand it, there won't be a huge amount of change as they wan't to make this decrease over the next 5 years.

Well the way I figure it has to be a increase of quit a bit. They want to decrease the heard by like 2500 animals over 5 years, thats 500 animals a years the way I figure it?

As for the wench all it is, is a Stilh (sp) like 034-036 with the bar taken off and the wench put on the powerhead. Here is a link.
