I am looking for a good way to remove rust from a .45 sithout removing the blueing. There is some rust on the top of the slide and and some below the hammer on the back.
Suggestions?

Thanks

once you get rust and therefore pitting it is tough to completely remove it but you can usually get most of it just with a rag and gun cleaner like Rusty Duck or something similar.,

I used a pencil eraser to get some light rust off my blued Browning Buckmark. It worked well and didn't affect the blueing at all.

Use gun oil like break free and some OOOO steel wool and oil the rust and very lightly rub it with the steel wool. What make of .45?

RvW's got it right.

0000 steel wool, heavily oiled, works the best.

No need to rub very hard.

It is a Springfield 1911-A1. Inherited from dad's collection. Rust due to little bro neglecting it. Now it is my possesion (along with a few others) and will be taken care of responsibly.
Thanks for the help.
