I was down at the local gunshop last week and was finger-f***ing the 1911's and came across this. It was love at first sight.

It is a Kimber Pro Covert II, Has a 4" barrel so it is legal length to hunt with. Not saying I plan on hunting with it but if carrying it and runnung across a game critter it would be legal to dispatch it with. It has Tritium night sights(glow all the time) and crimson trace lazer grips. Its been a week since I seen her and still cant get it out of my mind. Sooooo....... that means somehow it will be mine. Time to liquidate some stuff. Anyone need a well used, barely functional kidney? How about a two-year-old?(boy) grin guaranteed to be great Lineman material. Or maybe a 7-year old, he gets up early to fish and sleeps on the boat all day, extra limit, just wake him up long enough to reel in his fish. Any way, it will be mine. I have never owned a 1911 or a .45 for that matter. Is there much difference in recoil compared to a .40 s&w? I keep asking why this had to happen in the middle of king season. I am not sure my financial situation can withstand both. I know Stick likes Kimber rifles but what is your take on their pistols? Anyway, back to my sleepless nights.

Those are beautiful looking guns..I have talked to a lot of people/and have read that a quite a few of the "newer" Kimbers are having various problems and have needed to be sent back to the factory. I'm not an expert on 1911's but thought I would pass this a long and let you do some due dillengence before purchasing one. 1911's are a pleasure to shoot, and are a heavy gun so the barrel lift is minimun. 1911'S to me are a little to finiky for my carry weapon...gimme a GLOCK any day... you will always know it will go BANG every time! .02

I have been told the same as what Sol Duc said. I really like those pistols but have been to nerveous to buy one if they are having problems. A gun shop in Lacey use to carry Kimbers and stoped because they were starting to have to many problems with them. To bad. Every time I pick up a Kimber it has that feel like it was made for my hand.

The recoil of a .45 feels like more of a push than a pop compared to the .40.
I really don't see 1911s as practical guns.
Manstopper? Yeah.
Bulky? Yeah.
Heavy? Yeah.
Woods gun? Nope.

Pretty, but if you want to hunt with it, get a Delta in 10MM. My .40 S&W is a bit snappier on the recoil than my .45ACP. The recoil isn't bad, and my 13 year old handles the .45ACP just fine.

Buy an XD or a Glock for the woods. Both are much better suited for that type of environment.
