I started a new holiday tradition today and took my 5 year old son out to Cooke Canyon Hunt Club in Ellensburg. We had a blast and I shot 8 roosters of the 10 that were put out. I prefer hunting wild birds, but this is the best way to go with a five year old in tow. Lots of action and we were done before he got cold or tired.

The best part by far was just spending the morning walking the field with my son and teaching him about the outdoors. These are the best moments in life and it sure makes the holiday season special.

Hope you all have a great holiday season!

Cheers!

Nice! Cedar will sure as hell get a few days in at Cooke Canyon before the regular season. What did they charge for the birds? Any trespass fee?

Good time for sure!

Cool stuff, I started pheasant hunting with my Dad when I was 5......and good looking lab, how old?

Dogfish, hitch yourself a ride to South Dakota next fall, Cedar will pick up pheasant hunting instantly in that chicken coop!

They have an anual $85 membership fee and charge $150 for 5 roosters, 7 hens, or 7 chuckar. I have been out there five times this year training my lab pup. They run a great operation and are very helpful.

I plan to have Doug finish up my pup's training in the spring and will leave the dog with him for a month to work on pointing and "sit to flush".

Cheers!

Good job! Glad to see you takin the kiddo with you!!! So many fathers are so selfish, IMO. They just park the kid(s) somewhere else, so they're not a hinderance while the dad(s) are having "fun". I feel I owe it to my boy to introduce him to the outdoors the "right way" (my way LOL), just like my dad did.

Congrats on the trip and the training...I've been hearing lots of wild "chinks" while steelheading this winter in Central Washington. I need to get that new pup....

I can't understand why guys would leave the boys at home, especially at a put & take place. There are days to hunt by yourself because of tough conditions, etc, and then days when it is all about them.

I look forward to more pics of you and your son. The sooner they learn, the sooner they pack the decoys.
