As of October this year, I've got 21 years on this small piece of heaven that me and my mate call home. Taint much, but we like it.

We've always seen deer year round and fawns in the spring.

There were the years of deer with shedding hair from the lungworm syndrome and then the years of the neighborhood boys shooting at them only to wound them with their cheap archery setups. I would wager that I have run over more arrows with my lawn mower than anyone else in Lewis County. Hell, I even had to get on the ladder to pull arrows out of the new roof on my house.

Today was cool because for the first time on my place, I got to see a really nice Buck, a large body, tall two point, with a distinctive white muzzle chasing two does around and impregnating the both of them. It took like three hours.

Talk about a two pump chump. These girz bucked him off over and over until he finally had his way with them. Easily seven to eight mountings on each doe to get the job done. After that, he was spent and just laid down near his girlz and chewed on my over grown lawn.

Let's hope his swimmers find their intended destination.

Wish I had pictures but they were so close to the house I did not want to spoil his moment. What a great Day.

Very cool stuff to get to see close up...your place is a great place to be a deer.

For some reason I can picture all of this.

That's because you've been here before. Not Two Many people accept the rarely offered invite to come visit.

We all like picture a Hartford like stag, head up and all majestik. Not this guy. This old white faced Blacktail Buck had his swollen neck extended and absolutely parallel to the turf, nostrils flared with half his tongue hanging out chasing these two does around , sniffing for a receptive moment.

He would follow them around, give them a poke for a couple of pumps, the does would buck him off and run off for like 30 to 40 meters, look back and squat to pee. He would go over for a sniff, raise his head. His eyeballs looked to be bloodshot and rolling around in their sockets, nostrils flared, tongue hanging out.

My wife said I think he is exposing himself and I replied he most likely is unless that bad boy was born with five legs.

Bucks and bulls in full rut can make drunk frat boys at closing time look suave and intelligent!

I hope his does make some babies for him...the last few bucks I and my buddies have seen aren't going to be making any more.

Late buck starts Thursday.

Perhaps he gets smart or the locals will have his ass.

I always hate seeing the neighborhood bucks take a whooping.

Another dandy showed up yesterday. A very tall spike / thick base with just the hint of his adult white face muzzle starting to show. He was hanging around a clearly non receptive doe, but following her none the less as she would graze off the sweet tops of the lawn. I'm pretty sure that the 1400 lbs. of triple sixteen lawn and garden fertilizer may have attracted most of the Claquato hill deer herd to over winter on my place.

I'm with you WDFW X 1 = 0 for wishing the neighborhood bucks well.

Lord only knows, we both have shot and kilt our share of deer but I'm guessin' not 2Many in our back yard. It's like you get some kind a name for them or some strange attachment when they hang out in numbers on your place.

Some of the biggest threats to the local deer population round these parts lived just to the west of me and have since departed, whereabouts unknown, after a Sheriff's Deputy moved into the rental house which lies between me and them.

One more thing to trespassers looking for a late season Buck.

Get off my lawn !

I may allow my 9 year old son to dump one on my place next year, but probably not.
He can get off his ass and get it done like the rest of us.

The harder it comes............The more it is appreciated.

Driftin was by here today for a short 9 hour visit and we both saw a wobbly little new born fawn following her mom around my conifer farm.

Skinny legs, no spots, mom was nudging her along, cool to see the fruits of some horny bucks labor.

It's just got to be a labor of love. Does not get any better than that for me these days.

Watched a doe and spotty fawn skip past the dining room porch this morning. Must have been some animal sex 'round here last fall too....
