A friend of mine is heading south this weekend to the Olympia area and wants to know if there is any fishing on the sound. Any help on what is open, what to use, where to fish would help greatly. He has a saltwater boat to get around with and would really like to catch a salmon if there is an area open down there for them. Thanks for any advice.

rouge runner,
Tell your friend that Pt. Defiance and Commencement Bay in Tacoma are both kickin' out fish. Down Olympia way the action at the green can off of the mouth of the Nisqually is pickin' up or across from the green can off of Lyle Point on Anderson Island. The launch at Pt. D is a good one and the only decent launch for the green can is Zittle's (I hate pluggin' these guys cause there jerks but....). You can mooch or troll the point and Commencement Bay, the green can is a jig show (Pt. Wilson Darts, 2 1/4 oz in white, green and pink). The limit is one king in area 11 (Tacoma) and 2 in area 13 (Olympia). Hope this helps ya out.
Good luck and tight lines, Jeff

RR: If he comes north to the Puyallup River mouth, you might check the post above on the same topic for at least a technique that works for me. Good luck this weekend. Hint, if he launches at Point Defiance, which is a good launch, get there early, early, early. It is going to be a very nice weekend by the look of things and there will be a mob there to launch, even worse trying to take out. Again, good luck to your buddy! T.
