This reminds me of story. My friend’s grandpa was a ww2 veteran and kinda of old and kooky. He would get letters from groups about “socialism taking over the country” and “liberal sickness” et cetera, with fancy symbol embossed paper. These letters were from random groups with names like “Patriot Pride”, and these letters would mostly ask for donations of course...”every 1$ make a difference!” This was like 15 years ago, it’s probably a lot worse these days with more advanced social media.

My friend figured his grandpa started getting the letters from gong to veterans conventions and signing up for stuff, he was really involved in all that for decades. Everyone knew it was all scams except grandpa unfortunately.
