I use nothing but the 1082 and a 2000 series Shimano reel for all of my spinning needs. No way is it "too light" for winter or summer steelies. I use my pair of 1082's for summer/winter steelies, chums, and silvers.

The only "issue" I've had with my 1082's was the time I accidently lined a 20+ lb chum on 8lb line while using a D*Nite for cohos. The line was more of the issue then the rod! Yes, I eventually won that battle, which tells you a lot for the 1082.
