I was just asking a few days ago about those hatchery plans at Pioneer Park on the lower Deschutes River. Apparently it's still a go after all the budget and pandemic disruptions, but no time line was given. From what I understand, there won't be any significant production changes. The new hatchery will simply allow self sufficiency for the Deschutes Chinook program - eggs and fry won't have to be shuttled back and forth to George Adams hatchery, which is on Hood Canal. I'd like to see an analysis showing if the prospective benefits are worth the cost.
