Do you think the app cannot work offline at all? That one can't fill out the form, phone saves it and the app updates when service resumes.... just like any one of your unsent text messages to your boyfriends that didn't send for the same reason?

No nobody was saying that, what I said and I will just repeat myself because perhaps you can read this time. First off there is no battery to die in the old punch card. Secondly, if your punch card gets wet it can dry back out unlike your phone, I usually don't carry a phone because I end up in the water once or twice each year. Thirdly, punch card fits inside my wallet so is always carried. Fourthly, once I quit my job I'm not even going to have a phone period, so it's bizzare to assume everyone has a smartphone because if it wasn't necessary for me to do my job I would not have one.
