Isn't clamming a mystery? I've been a digger since I was able to use a shovel, and since I've retired have dug in at least one tide in every series until an injury slowed me down this season. Just when I thought I had it all figured out things get weird. Sometimes it's hard to get success, others it's just so easy. I keep factoring in weather, surf height, tides and available feed (by looking for it in the surf) and am still often surprised when it seems clams are everywhere - or nowhere. I have friends who begin to dig VERY early in the tide and are successful. The shows that they dig quickly disappear as the tide recedes and are not apparent to others who get there later in the tide. Fun stuff. I love to go, and that's all that matters. Obviously razor clams is one of the best run programs at WDFW along with trout fishing in lakes.
