It refuses to issue a license if there is a cetain amount of back child support owed under that SSN number. This same process is now used by the DOL when issuing drivers licenses and ID's.

It is a federal law that all states must go to this system within a certain amount of years or they lose a certain amount of funding.

If you provided a bought a fishing license this year, you will not be asked for your SSN number again when purchasing a fishing license. It is stored into a database and us license dealers have no way of looking it up or viwing it. In fact, no one is suppose to be able to look it up and view it but do we realy trust our government??? rolleyes

A quick hint as Timber Man talked about in the previous post. The system requires a SSN number meaning it requires you to give the dealer a 9 digit number. The computer will not not issue a license if the SSN is not valid. The SSN just can not be traced back to a deadbeat parent. wink wink wink

I know many people who did not provide their SSN but still were issued a license and have yet to run into a problem laugh
