I use graphite rods too in my downriggers, but its my understanding that you want to use glass because the glass rod will relax once you reel down on it in the rigger. But the graphite rod will keep its stress and they when you hook set or el biggums blasts your stuff then snapppp. But like I've said maybe I've just been lucky for twenty or so years.
