It's a great way to present a bait or jig, but it's kind of "labor intensive", meaning you have to adjust your float to match the depth of the water time and time again. My buddy and I started fishing this way a few years back and we do very well with either bait or a jig under a float. It keeps you busy adjusting the depth of your offering, but in rivers with grabby bottoms you can't beat staying right off the bottom and away from shale, boulders, and other assorted gear-grabbers. The nice part is being able to use the boat to extend that "dead" drift way down a slot, especially if the run has a pretty consistent depth.
