OK, here's my amatuer comments. First, in the 5 years I've been doing my site, it's gone through at least a half dozen overhauls to get to the point where I like it. And I'm not trying to sell anything! Point being, you will revamp a few times as you work to "get it right".
A few things pop out at me: Reduce the size of your main page Teds banner. It's taking up too much real estate and pushing other valuable stuff "under the fold" (that's the bottom of the computer monitor. Those buttons on the side - 2,000 kilobytes - they can be reduced in size and moved closer. Smaller fonts all over.
A good start all in all.
