Cougars do attack adults. Last September a man was jump from behind on his bike in B.C. It brought him and his bike down. The guy had a back pack on and it pushed up and keep the cat from sticking his teeth in the back of his neck. He fought the big cat for about 5 minutes and realized he was out of gas and the cougar was going to kill him. He was trying to hold the cat of with his bike when a guy driving home from work came by and the bicyclist dove through the car window and they sped away. The cat tried to get him in the car.
About 2 weeks later a women cross country skiing in B.C. was killed by a cougar that had tracked her for about 2 miles. The game warden shot and dropped the cat on it’s victim which he was making a meal of.
Yes, B.C. is wilder and more remote than our state but since the do-gooders outlawed hound hunting 3 years ago for those who was into that sort of thing the cougar populations are becoming a problem and it is only a matter of time before just house pets fall victim.
A relative told me they were watching the Discovery Channel a year or so ago and it was about a women that was fly fishing in a creek or small river in OR. or CO. A cougar crept out on a branch and jumped on her in the water and had her under and the only thing she could think of was the scissors in her fishing vest which she was able to retrieve and berry through the cougars eye into the brain. He said they showed the cougar mounted with the scissors. I didn’t see the show myself but if it is true cougars aren't that scared of the water.
