A 2 or 3 piece oar is not a good idea (IMO) because when ya break an oar it is usually in a place where ya need the spare right away.

Can you imagine trying to put together an oar as you are spinning down a rapid or two. I did that once, broke an oar on the last stroke going into some nasty rapids under some overhanging trees and spun my way through them while trying to put together an oar I had strapped to the back of my rowing seat. Well, I got it together at the bottom of the rapids after getting out the knife and shaving down the wood to get it into the connector sleeve that joined the two pieces together.

Real bad way to go. Get a 1 piece oar and try to put it towards the rear of the boat and LIVE with it......
