Take your fly rod! If you have a 7 to 9wt you will have a blast with the jacks. As far as poppers go, If you live in the Seattle / Bellevue area, Kaufman's carries some ready to assemble popper kits. They have both blue and white that do a good job of imitating a sardine. The kit includes the popper head and some excellent saltwater hooks. All you have to do isepoxy the hook and tie on the tail color you want.
I had great success catching jack crevelle on these in October. It is pretty cool to see schools of jacks fighting each other to get to eat the popper. The brown pelicans were even trying to get in on the action.
You could also cast these on terminal equipment.
