One of the things about Communism being the identified threat for so many years is that it gave a reason to overthrow populist governments in South America. Just a couple or three years ago, like a ghost of Christmas pasts, there was an attempted coup against Venzuela's Chavez. The coup failed and now there are democratically elected populist governments springing up all over in SA.
