Ok you udder milkers out there. Did you also have a separator, Armstrong type? The milking was tolerable in my youth, cleaning the stalls and shoveling out the milking area were not so nice.
Cranking the separator was just damn hard work. We ran the separator and sold the whole milk, cream, churned butter and buttermilk as separate items at the local market. A 3 mile hike down the road to Goldendale, Wa. After the separator operation the thing had to be torn down and cleaned, the worst job of all.
But good old day cream, the stuff that did not pour, was wonderful. Had to use a spoon to put it on the oatmeal.,
