On memorial day weekend 1999 I was fishing the duc with my friend and his wife. It was sunday morning and they fished with me from whitcom dimmel to the bridge take out where they left to go to church and planned to meet me at lyendeckers that evening. So I proceeded to the bark hole to fish for some springers. I hook one side drifting through the hole and manage to net it in the tailout. When I set it in the boat it starts flopping around and one of the K-14s on one of my plug rods gets caught in the net. I decided to free the kwikfish before it gets tangled too bad and the fish flops again and sets the hook on me. Now I've got a 1/0 treble hook in the base of my ring finger all the way to the bend of the hook and the fish is still flopping around. I tried to back it out but it was past the barb. So I grabbed the k-14 with my other hand so it wouldn't get worse and waited for a lull in the fishes movement so I could let go of the plug and grab my pliers that were a long reach away. It took me about a minute after the fish settled down to convinvce myself it was ok to reach across the boat to get the pliers. When I got the pliers I had to force the hook through the other side of my finger, pinch the barb and backed the hook out. It was a helpless feeling but it makes for a good story and learning experience. Plus I got a springer out of the whole deal so it wasn't all bad.
