We are discussing apples and oranges here...

Steelhead release very very well as they have a very low mortality...most believe that to be below 10%

Chinook on the other hand do not do all that well...they fight to the death and I have seen various reports putting chinook mortality much much higher then that of steelhead. The mortality is higher when the fish is fresh from the salt and the scales are loose...

Plus these springers are netted, brought into a boat etc. etc. which puts alot more stress on them then many of the C&R tactics practiced by the vast majority of those releasing wild steelhead.
