I'll throw in my .02 here. I've owned several I/O boats but no outboards. After riding in a buddy's outboard boat last year, I swear I'll never own another I/O. Yes, I/O's are generally automotive engines with a proven track record of reliability, gas mileage etc. But the handling, steering and fishability of an outboard is a far greater advantage. I've never been much for two strokes, but now that 4 stroke outboards are available, that's what I'd do.
