There is no "standard" however the 19 wraps for the first step is good because it gives a little more length for the loop and causes it not to close as tightly as one created with fewer wraps. This permits a snug loop around your eggs without cutting thru them.

I actually use 20-25 wraps and have found it far better than 5-10 wraps.

As far as the second part of the wrap goes, you need enuf to make a secure knot and Ive never had a problem using 5.

So the video gave you good advice. Keep practicing and you'll find that it becomes second nature after awhile. I think the key is to keep constant tension on the wraps at all times and of course to never overlap the wraps.

Finally, doing your own is far cheaper than purchasing pre-tied hooks. Good luck!
