The frenzy in the salt water has reached its peak after the Sekiu Derby that sold 600 some odd tickets. New fisherman shoot to the rivers in hope that they can be blessed by a hook nose silver. They come in fleets and slosh through the water with their fresh smelling hip boots. After that they cast a buzz bomb with 20 pound test and after an hour they become annoyed. Instead of trying a different lure or going light they do what they know is wrong, snagging.
I fish every week of the year and I've sat back and read people's posts and I can tell a new angler when I read what they typed. They tell of great days on the river where they hook 20 fish and can't wait to go back. I think it's great that they like fishing but that's not fishing. Fishing is hiking into a hole and studying the fish and then trying to make a perfect presentation in hopes that a silver will come and devour the lure. I live in Port Angeles and I try and stay away from the crowds by fishing the Sold Duc, Bogachiel, Hoh, Calwah, etc. but with the recent publicity I don't see how I can get away. All in all respect the environment and keep the fishing clean.
I'm only 15 and if I can figure it out so can you.
